AFTER I AM GONE (A Sonnet)

Heaven resembles Victorian balls,
Where gold carafes pour mellifluous wine.
Couples dance beneath chandeliers which shine,
Amid white candles, gleaming on the walls.

Among brown tables of mahogany,
Strewn with books of classic, romantic verse
Are rapturous nooks of the universe
Where lovers kiss within a symphony.

And when I go there, when my soul shall rise,
I shall live on in these eternal lines,
After I am gone, beyond the blue skies.

I shall drink in those mansions sacred wines,
And my sonnets shall live beyond the tomb,
As I dance with my love in a gilded room.
